- Sharp opens a factory in Kameyama, Japan. The Kameyama factory has one of the world’s largest rooftop solar arrays, and the world’s smallest carbon footprint for an LCD TV producing factory. The area in Kameyama where the Sharp factory is located is known as “Crystal Valley.”
- Sharp’s Kameyama plant is the world’s most advanced eco-conscious factory in the world, with 1/3 of its energy coming from solar, thermal co-generation, and fuel cell systems.
- With a focus on global issues SHARP is putting renewable energy solutions such as solar energy to work in the production of AQUOS LCD TVs and countless other technologies.

SHARP’s LCD HISTORY

- 1915 - Sharp founder, Tokuuji Hayakawa invents the Ever-Sharp Pencil, the world’s first practical mechanical pencil, the Ever-Sharp Pencil. From this device the company took its name.

1953 - Sharp is Japan’s first mass producer of televisions sets, coinciding with Japan’s first television broadcasts.

1963 - Sharp is the first company in Japan to mass produce solar cells.

1973 - The world’s first practical application of LCDs was seen in the Sharp EL-805 calculator’s Liquid Crystal Display.
- 1987 - Sharp created a thin liquid crystal display module with more pixels than any LCD TV in the industry at that time.
- 1991 - In 1991, Sharp introduced the world's first wall-mount LCD TV, incorporating the industry's largest 8.6-inch TFT LCD with 437,760 pixels, adhering to Sharp's high standards of brightness and picture clarity.
- 2000 - In 2000 Sharp developed the world’s first built-in camera mobile phone that could send photos via email.
- 2004 - Sharp opens a factory in Kameyama, Japan. The Kameyama factory has one of the world’s largest rooftop solar arrays, and the world’s smallest carbon footprint for an LCD TV producing factory.
- 2007 - In 2007 Sharp developed the world¹s first 108-inch* LCD display.

- This was all part of a first of its kind Facebook contest and ran from June 12th to July 14th , 2008. Thousands of dollars in prizes were awarded to players of the Facebook Lifechangingbox game.
